About Kirk
Kirk E. Mays was born and grew up in and around Lakeland and Plant City, FL. He has traveled extensively throughout the US, Europe, the Caribbean, Central and South America.
He grew up on his father’s large family cattle ranch, The Triple Creek Ranch. This is where he learned to love and appreciate the outdoors, in finding beauty in the Florida landscapes and skies, and just how beautiful finding old dilapidated buildings and forgotten inanimate objects in nature can be.
During his childhood Kirk lived in central Florida, Jenson Bench, Florida, Roanoke, Virginia, Little Rock, Arkansas, San Francisco, California, and Antigua, and Guatemala City, Guatemala. It was living in these other places that Kirk’s love for different types of landscapes deepened. He was able to look at the sky and landscape and he would start to visualize the composition he wanted to build in a photograph.
Kirk started off his love of photography with his first camera, a Ricoh 35mm film camera. He learned all about how to use this camera to capture the photos he was conceiving in his mind. He then learned how to process and develop the film. Once digital photography and the computer came about, he fell in love with it right away.
Kirk has spent the best part of 25 years learning how to be a Visual Photography Artist, how to best produce his conceptualized visions by using the latest camera and computer technology to bring the “Living Landscapes” he has become well known for, to life.
